North Wales Borderlands

The North Wales Borderlands is unusual

Resolutely Welsh, but with more than a hint of English, the North Wales Borderlands is unusual. It’s a place where two countries meet. It takes no time at all to get here, but you’ll soon notice a big difference. And thankfully these days our crborders are a little easier to oss. By road, or rail. Or via Pont Sir Y Fflint. The largest asymmetric cable-stayed bridge in the UK. In the borderlands you will find Castell Dinas Bran. It’s an Iron Age hillfort and a medieval castle all rolled into one. It overlooks the town of Llangollen and the Dee Valley. And it’s just one of many borderland fortresses. Flint Castle’s another. It was the first castle built in Wales for Edward I. Then there's 700-year-old Chirk Castle. With award-winning gardens and views over nine counties, it’s the only one of Edward I’s Welsh castles still lived in today.
